  • How To Find The Right Lipstick Shade?

    January 06, 2016 2 min read

Lipsticks have been around for years and many women gain confidence when wearing their favorite shade. But how do I find the perfect lipstick shade?

In order to determine which color will look good, we recommend determining your skin tone. Pull up your sleeve and let natural light hit your skin. Take a look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. This is a quick way to find out if you have a cool or a warm undertone.

Blue or purple veins mean you have a cool skin tone whereas green veins mean you have a warm undertone. If you can’t figure out whether your veins are blue or green, you most likely have a neutral skin tone and you can choose colors from both the warm and cool undertones.

Rosy pink, pomegranate or cranberry tones look best on cool skin tones while bronze, copper, and cinnamon work best on warm skin tones. You can also combine one part lipstick and one part gloss to create your own color. It is not only budget friendly it will also create your own unique shade.

According to Bobbi Brown, the most flattering color for your lips are one or two shades deeper than your natural lip color. Test how close the shade is to your natural lip color by applying the lipstick only on the lower lip. Compare your lower lip with the upper one. If the shades are too different keep looking.

Before choosing a lipstick, you should also decide if you want your lips to look smaller or bigger. Darker shades or matte lipstick are intended to make your lips look smaller while lighter and glossy shades do the opposite.

If all else fails go with red. Red lipstick is not only a classy fashion statement, it also works on every woman, regardless of age, skin, hair, eye or lip color.

The most important thing about choosing the right color for you is that you try it on and select what you feel looks best on you. Don’t be afraid to mix colors and try many shades. You cannot succeed if you don't try.
